Why does my well water smell like rotten eggs?

A sulfur smell is usually caused by hydrogen sulfide gas naturally occurring in groundwater or by sulfur-reducing bacteria in your well. This is common in North Houston and treatable with shock chlorination or a filtration system.

How do I know if my well has bacteria?

There are often no visible signs of bacterial contamination. The only way to confirm is through professional water testing, which 77 Water Well recommends annually.

What causes low water pressure in a well system?

Low pressure can be caused by a failing pump, waterlogged pressure tank, clogged pipes, or sediment buildup. Our technicians diagnose and fix the cause quickly.

How often should a private well be inspected?

The National Ground Water Association recommends a professional well inspection at least once every 10 years, with annual water quality testing.

What is well plugging and when is it needed?

Texas State Law requires landowners to plug all abandoned or unused wells to protect the water supply. 77 Water Well Inc. is licensed to handle all well plugging in Texas.

That means private water wells are not a luxury here—they’re a necessity. At 77 Water Well, we specialize in designing systems for Plantersville’s unique environment. About Plantersville, Texas

Plantersville is a quiet, rural town located at the crossroads of FM 1774 and Highway 105, offering a mix of small ranches, hobby farms, and new acreage developments. With limited access to public utilities, most homes and properties in Plantersville depend on private groundwater wells for their water supply. The area’s proximity to the Gulf Coast Aquifer provides a stable water source, but wells can often contain high levels of iron, calcium, and natural sulfides, which make regular testing and treatment critical. Popular areas we serve in Plantersville include Stoneham, Wildwood Estates, Grimes County ranchlands, properties along FM 1774 and CR 302, and rural developments near the Renaissance Festival grounds.

Frequently Asked Questions – Plantersville

How deep should a water well be in Plantersville?

Most wells in Plantersville range from 200 to 500 feet, depending on soil composition and aquifer depth. We use local hydrogeologic data to determine the best depth for long-term reliability.

Do I need a permit to install a well in Grimes County?

Yes. All water well installation in Plantersville requires permits under TCEQ and Grimes County Environmental Health Services. We handle the entire process for you.

What causes sulfur or iron smells in well water?

Plantersville groundwater naturally contains iron and hydrogen sulfide, which can cause a metallic or rotten egg smell. This is easily resolved with proper filtration and treatment systems.

Can one well supply both my house and irrigation system?

Yes, depending on yield and pump capacity. Many rural systems are designed with dual-use capability, or we can install a dedicated irrigation well for large properties.

How long will my water well system last?

With professional installation and annual maintenance, a water well system can last 30–50 years, and pumps typically last 10–15 years. We offer service plans to help maximize system lifespan.
