Why does my well water smell like rotten eggs?

A sulfur smell is usually caused by hydrogen sulfide gas naturally occurring in groundwater or by sulfur-reducing bacteria in your well. This is common in North Houston and treatable with shock chlorination or a filtration system.

How do I know if my well has bacteria?

There are often no visible signs of bacterial contamination. The only way to confirm is through professional water testing, which 77 Water Well recommends annually.

What causes low water pressure in a well system?

Low pressure can be caused by a failing pump, waterlogged pressure tank, clogged pipes, or sediment buildup. Our technicians diagnose and fix the cause quickly.

How often should a private well be inspected?

The National Ground Water Association recommends a professional well inspection at least once every 10 years, with annual water quality testing.

What is well plugging and when is it needed?

Texas State Law requires landowners to plug all abandoned or unused wells to protect the water supply. 77 Water Well Inc. is licensed to handle all well plugging in Texas.

About Montgomery, Texas

Montgomery, TX is a historic and rapidly expanding city located in Montgomery County, north of Houston. With access to the Gulf Coast Aquifer, residents benefit from a consistent source of groundwater, but also face common challenges such as iron, hardness, and hydrogen sulfide contamination—making professional testing and treatment essential.

Frequently Asked Questions – Montgomery

How deep is a typical water well in Montgomery?

Most wells in Montgomery range from 250 to 600 feet, depending on property location, elevation, and aquifer level. We use hydrogeological data to determine the ideal installation depth for optimal water yield.

Do I need a permit to install a well in Montgomery?

Yes. All water wells must comply with TCEQ and Montgomery County Environmental Health Services regulations. 77 Water Well handles the permit process from start to finish.

Can one well provide water for both my home and irrigation?

Yes. Many systems are designed for dual use, but depending on your water needs, we may recommend a separate irrigation well to avoid overtaxing your household supply.

What are common water issues in Montgomery wells?

Groundwater in this region often contains iron, sulfur, hardness, and sediment. These can be removed or reduced with the proper filtration and treatment systems.

How long will a water well system last?

With proper installation and regular maintenance, your well can last 30–50 years, and your pump will typically last 10–15 years. We offer inspection and maintenance plans to extend system life.
