Why does my well water smell like rotten eggs?

A sulfur smell is usually caused by hydrogen sulfide gas naturally occurring in groundwater or by sulfur-reducing bacteria in your well. This is common in North Houston and treatable with shock chlorination or a filtration system.

How do I know if my well has bacteria?

There are often no visible signs of bacterial contamination. The only way to confirm is through professional water testing, which 77 Water Well recommends annually.

What causes low water pressure in a well system?

Low pressure can be caused by a failing pump, waterlogged pressure tank, clogged pipes, or sediment buildup. Our technicians diagnose and fix the cause quickly.

How often should a private well be inspected?

The National Ground Water Association recommends a professional well inspection at least once every 10 years, with annual water quality testing.

What is well plugging and when is it needed?

Texas State Law requires landowners to plug all abandoned or unused wells to protect the water supply. 77 Water Well Inc. is licensed to handle all well plugging in Texas.

Is your well water staining your sinks, smelling like rotten eggs, or leaving residue on your fixtures? These are signs of mineral or bacterial contamination that can be resolved with proper testing and treatment. We offer certified water testing for coliform and E. coli bacteria, iron and manganese, hydrogen sulfide (sulfur smell), water hardness (calcium, magnesium), and pH levels, nitrates, and TDS.

Irrigation and Agricultural Water Systems

For ranches, gardens, farms, and equestrian properties, we design high-capacity irrigation wells and agricultural water systems to ensure a steady, efficient water supply for crops, animals, and landscaping. Services include irrigation well installation, high-flow pump installations, livestock watering systems, sprinkler and drip irrigation integration, and timers, pressure regulators, and remote pump controls.

Geothermal Well Systems

We also offer geothermal well installation services for energy-efficient HVAC systems. These systems use the earth’s consistent underground temperature to heat and cool your home—saving you money and reducing environmental impact.

About Tomball, Texas

Tomball, located in northern Harris County, is a thriving town with deep roots in agriculture, ranching, and small-town Texas values. As development expands toward The Woodlands, Cypress, and Magnolia, many landowners are settling in Tomball for its open space and independence. However, much of the land outside the city limits lacks access to municipal water systems. That’s why private water wells remain a critical resource for custom home builders, multi-acre residential properties, working farms and ranches, and greenhouses and gardens.

Frequently Asked Questions – Tomball

How deep are water wells in Tomball, TX?

Most wells in the Tomball area range from 200 to 600 feet, depending on property elevation and aquifer levels. We use local data and field testing to determine the right depth for your location.

Do I need a permit to install a well in Harris County?

Yes. All well installation requires permits through Harris County Public Health and compliance with TCEQ regulations. We handle all permitting and documentation for you.

How long does a well pump last?

Most submersible pumps last 10–15 years with proper maintenance. Jet pumps may have slightly shorter lifespans. We offer inspection plans to help extend pump life and performance.

Can I use the same well for home and irrigation?

Yes. A properly designed system can handle both, but for larger irrigation needs, we may recommend a separate irrigation well to preserve pressure and flow for residential use.

Is my well water safe to drink?

It depends on the mineral and bacteria content. We recommend annual water testing, especially if you notice changes in taste, smell, or clarity. We can install treatment systems to ensure water meets EPA standards.
